The weave is not readily visible, the stripes appear to be dyed on after the blanket was made, blanket-stitched edges look like cut felt. When compared to the Italian blanket, this wool feels less dry, suggesting that more lanolin is left in it.

They are about the same weight as the Italian surplus, but the wool in the HBC/Whitney is a finer wool, so they are much softer and have more loft. When folded the same way, the HBC/Whitney is a good 1/3 again as thick as the Italian surplus and twice the thickness of a US surplus.

Jul 6, 2021. #5. USGI wool blanket is about 3lbs, and X thick. My Polish Army wool blankets are the same size, 5-6lbs, and X+ thick, about double, maybe a bit more. Generally speaking, a better quality wool will be softer and less scratchy. 100% low-quality wool can be very scratchy.

Oct 6, 2011 · They are very dense and warm, also a mite heavy. If they were priced as civilian blankets, these would be in the $80-$200 range, I suspect. However, they are what they are - a military surplus item that is inexpensive and very durable and serviceable. No real "hype" to it, just a good bargain for outdoors use.

Aug 31, 2016 · I contacted them on Facebook. Materials for these blankets are: 55% Alpaca. 35% Wool. 10% Cotton. I am going to guess that the 10% cotton comes from the outside trim on the blanket and the main portion of the blanket is made up of the Alpaca / wool blend.
