Blending fibers on a drum carder usually starts with all the fibers carded separately. Each fiber is then fed onto the drum in thin layers. The thinner the layers are, the faster the fibers will blend. After all the fibers are loaded, remove the batt and tear it into strips. These strips are fluffed apart and fed through the carder again, one after the other. Repeat as necessary until your fiber is blended to your satisfaction. Usually for dryer balls we use the part of the fleece that is not prime spinning wool. It’s always fun working with Walter’s fleece because of the wide variation of color he has.
