In 1965, Operation Rolling Thunder began, leading to widespread devastation in North Vietnam until 1968. Despite the U.S. dropping more bombs than in Europe during WWII, the campaign failed to bring Hanoi to the negotiating table. The bombing devastated the environment and killed civilians.
