Wildland firefighting is challenging work that is physically and mentally demanding, requiring both strength and endurance. Firefighters must be physically fit to perform the role safely and effectively, avoid injuries and recover rapidly. All BC Wildfire Service firefighters are trained to Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) standards as Type 1 firefighters and complete a fitness test each year. Even after the test, fitness training remains a high priority for our crews across the p

In this video, BC Wildfire Service Incident Commander, Scott Rennick, explains the current situation on the Battleship Mountain wildfire (G72150). ☂️ Most of B.C. may be singing in the rain this long weekend, but that doesn't mean we might not get lucky with some warm sunny weather. While warm sunny weekends are great, it does mean we all need to be a little more careful with fire. Whether you are planning on shooting off some fireworks, having a campfire or using fire to clean up debris around your property, please do so wisely and only when and where permitted. If you are planning on having a fire, here are some tips to follow: 🔥Before

Recently the last of our new recruits completed New Recruit Bootcamp, the foundational training for our firefighters. Over the course of six days recruits are trained on topics like fire behaviour, firefighting tactics and safety and complete activities in the field to practice their new skills. After bootcamp recruits are assigned to their new jobs around the province to meet their crews and continue their education. Congratulations to every recruit who joined us this year. There are 57 helicopters currently deployed to support wildfire suppression efforts across the province with an additional 32 machines on standby. In general we classify the helicopters used for wildfire fighting into three main categories: light, medium and heavy lift. The size and specifications of a helicopter determine the type of tasks it may be assigned. Helicopters may be used to: • Transport firefighting crews • Use buckets or belly tanks to drop water on a fire • Transport gear and equi

In August, our S-61 supported BC Wildfire Service on the Cameron Lake Fire, with additional work on the Mount Underwood Fire. Flying with NVGs, our crews pushed past daylight and kept the fight going after dark. We’ve flown across the world to battle wildfires, but there’s something special about being back in BC, protecting the landscapes and communities where it all began for us. #CoulsonAviation #S61 #BCWS #AerialFirefighting #CameronLakeFire #NightOps | Coulson Aviation - Next Gen Firefighti

Wildfires are impacting people across Canada right now. Our partners in other provinces have been there for us in the past and we’re grateful to be able to support them now in their time of need. Today we’re sending nearly 170 personnel to support our partners in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. This includes firefighting crews, supervisory staff, equipment and an Incident Management Team to continue supporting response efforts. While supporting our partners, we are also maintaining the resou

Last season two helicopters helped us fight wildfires at night, working in tandem doing detection, reconnaissance, tanking and supporting ground crews. This year, we’re growing the program to four helicopters — two smaller ones with NVIS Flight Officers on board and two larger ones with belly tanks for water delivery. We’ve also trained more NVIS Flight Officers to safely support night operations. We’ll also have them for longer terms this year, starting earlier in the season. One of the helicop
